Perched on the edge of the water on the wild west coast

Captains Rest is a haven of peace and serenity in a stunning secluded slice of world heritage area.

The heritage-listed fishing shack is perched on the edge of the water on the wild west coast of Tasmania. This hideaway is located in some of the most remote and pristine wilderness in the world - you could walk on Ocean Beach for days and not come to the end or across anyone else!

Captains Rest is all yours, and the space around it is shared by all our fellow shack owners. Sometimes the area around our shack is quiet, sometimes it’s a hive of fishing, photography, boat building and community. Complete with its own jetty out the front, you’re sure fall deeply in love with this place.

Captains Rest has been designed, renovated and decorated with love with objects and furnishings from around Australia and the world. From our main living area, the clawfoot bath and the bedroom you can look out the huge antique windows to views of the bay, the pristine mountains and the ever changing sky.

Offering satellite broadband and 4G connectivity with Telstra, as well as a desk for two in the window, it’s the ultimate location for getting some work done. Look out to rainbows, dolphins, seals, and the local ducks and feel relaxed.

When it’s time to cut loose, jump off the jetty, and warm back up in front of the fire or take a stroll through the adorable town of Strahan close by.

The local supermarket has everything you need, and friends at The Coffee Shack will take care of your caffeine and sweet tooth needs. For dinner, The Bay Fresh Fish & Chips is a must, offering seafood straight off the boat!
